Men's Health Check Q&A | Matilda International Hospital

Written by Dr. Gary WONG Ka Chung | 13 Mar, 2025

You should do regular health checks to monitor any medical conditions, diagnose health issues, and assess health risks. Regular health checks for male allow for early diagnosis and treatment of health issues, thereby improving overall health outcomes.

What tests should the regular check include?

You should regularly undergo health checks and tests for any health issues that may affect your well-being. This includes checking cholesterol levels, blood pressure, weight and body mass index. It is also good to regularly review lifestyle habits like smoking, alcohol consumption, and mental health. Additionally, you should have periodic screening for signs of testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and colorectal cancer.

How often should  a health check be conducted?

You should have a health checkup at least once a year, though this may vary depending on age and medical history. A yearly well men health check can help identify health risks, screen for diseases like cancer, and assess overall health.

If you are over the age of 50, it is especially important to have regular screenings for colorectal cancer and prostate cancer.

What should you discuss with the doctor during health checks? What tests and items should be included?

Taking time to discuss your health concerns with your doctor is a great step in protecting your health and setting health goals. Here are some suggested topics to discuss with your doctor:

  1. Screening for various diseases and conditions, such as colorectal cancer, prostate cancer, testicular health, and sexually transmitted infections.
  2. Recommendations for maintaining a healthy weight through exercise and healthy eating habits.
  3. Guidance on managing chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, and asthma.
  4. Discussion of mental health concerns, such as depression, anxiety and stress.
  5. Education on safe sex practices.
  6. Wellness advice, such as stress-management techniques, smoking cessation and alcohol moderation.
  7. Immunization recommendations.
  8. Andropause, what to expect and how to minimise the effects.
  9. Family medical history and associated risk factors.

Where can Men's Health Check Programmes be found?

There are many health check programs that you can opt for. However, not all programmes are suitable for you and some test items may not be necessary to do frequently. It is always good to make an informed decision before confirming the suitable health check items for you.

Matilda provides a series of Men's Health Check Programmes suitable for men of different ages in two locations.
