Matilda International Hospital and Matilda Children’s Foundation Collaborate
with Mongolia’s National Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics
to Offer Free Life-Changing Surgeries for Underprivileged Mongolian Children

In a landmark initiative, Matilda International Hospital (MIH) and the Matilda Children’s Foundation (MCF) signed a cooperative agreement with the National Centre for Traumatology and Orthopedics (NCTO) in Mongolia on 28 August 2024. This collaboration will provide life-changing surgeries at no cost to underprivileged Mongolian children, offering them access to specialised medical expertise and treatments in Hong Kong, currently unavailable in Mongolia.

The agreement was signed by Linda Burgoyne, CEO of MIH and Chairperson of MCF, and Erdenetsetseg Galbadrakh, Director of NCTO, and was witnessed by Khulan Onkhoon, Consul General of Mongolia in Hong Kong; Lynne Fung, Executive Director of Business Development at MIH; and Batzorig Batbileg, Deputy Director of NCTO.

According to the agreement, all parties will jointly identify suitable patients and arrange for them to travel to Hong Kong to undergo free surgeries and receive specialist care at MIH. By leveraging MIH’s extensive medical experience, especially in orthopaedics, the cooperation aims to improve the health of Mongolian children who are in need of specialised treatments but are financially disadvantaged and lack access to specialised medical expertise locally.

At the signing ceremony, Linda Burgoyne said, “This agreement represents a significant milestone for the Matilda Children’s Foundation. By collaborating with the National Centre for Traumatology and Orthopedics, we are committed to providing care and medical expertise to the Mongolian community and improving the well-being of their children. With our strengths in orthopaedics, MIH and MCF are ready to make a significant difference in the lives of these young individuals. We also want to express our sincere gratitude to the Consulate General of Mongolia in Hong Kong for facilitating this important collaboration.”

Erdenetsetseg Galbadrakh commented, “We are excited to have the opportunity to work with both the Matilda Children’s Foundation and Matilda International Hospital to change the lives of Mongolian children. With this strategic collaboration in place, we will be able to identify the most suitable children with surgical needs who meet the selection criteria and ensure these children receive much-needed care before and after surgeries performed at MIH in Hong Kong.”

Khulan Onkhoon remarked, “It is exciting to see the realisation of this collaboration agreement between Mongolia and Hong Kong. I sincerely hope that this partnership will open doors for more children to receive free surgery and change their lives for the better.”

NCTO is a well-regarded medical institution in Mongolia. It has been working to improve the quality and availability of healthcare services, prevent diseases, and provide evidence-based diagnosis and treatment technology to the Mongolian community.
