A Sound Future: Matilda International Hospital and Matilda Children's Foundation
Welcome Mongolian Child for Free Life-Changing Hearing Surgery

Matilda International Hospital (MIH) and the Matilda Children's Foundation (MCF) continue their vital mission of offering free, life-changing surgeries across borders. This September marks a significant milestone as MIH welcomed a new patient referred by the Mongolian Ministry of Health through the Consulate General of Mongolia in Hong Kong—a 7-year-old Mongolian boy named Dashnyam. He arrived in Hong Kong on September 13 and was scheduled to undergo free hearing surgery a week later, a procedure not available in his home country.

The young boy, who suffered from significant hearing impairments associated with congenital ear deformity, underwent surgical treatment to implant a magnetic bone conduction device, which is expected to improve his hearing capabilities. After a week-long recovery at the hospital, he safely returned to Mongolia, hopeful and poised for a healthier future. We are committed to ensuring ongoing follow-up care and optimising post-surgical outcomes for the patient.

MIH and MCF have been working closely with the Consulate General of Mongolia in Hong Kong to offer free medical surgeries for children of the Mongolian community. In September 2023, both parties signed a collaborative agreement with The National Center for Maternal and Child Health in Mongolia. A recent agreement, signed with Mongolia’s National Centre for Traumatology and Orthopedics in August 2024, underscores our commitment to expanding our reach and continuing to provide specialist surgeries at no cost to Mongolian children in need.

2: Dashnyam, who suffers from hearing impairments due to ear deformity, undergoes a transformative procedure which involves implanting a magnetic bone conduction device against the skull behind his ear. This device is designed to significantly enhance his hearing by enabling a more stable connection with the external sound processor. Surgeon Dr Jacky Wong and Anaesthesiologist Dr Kelvin Wong collaborate to perform the operation.
